About Chief / CEO Theo Weber

Grand Traverse Rural Fire Department Chief / CEO Theo Weber was born and raised in the Traverse City area. He attended Traverse City High School and Northwestern Community College. He is married to his wife Nancy and has two adult children Nick and Meghan.

Theo’s ancestors settled the Mayfield township area in the late 1800. Theo’s grandfather Arnold White co-founded the Peninsula Township Fire Department. His father Robert Weber also served on the Peninsula Township Fire Department.

During the 1980’s Theo worked for Smith International Inc. (an Oil Field Service Company) holding management positions in Michigan, Texas, California, Oklahoma and also traveling abroad as a service engineering coordinator.

During the 1990’s he moved his young family back to the Traverse City area fulfilling his entrepreneur spirit owning and operating two retail businesses.

In 1990 Theo became a member of the City of Frankfort Fire Department and in 1995 he was hired by the City of Traverse City Fire Department. He held several positions within City Fire Department including firefighter/ paramedic, Hazmat team member, training officer, Lieutenant, Captain and Director of the Bay Area Technical Rescue Team.

Theo also was a certified instructor for Michigan Firefighter Training Council instructing Firefighting, Safety & Survival, Rescue and Hazmat response. Additionally he held the position of Northern VP for the Michigan Fire Service Instructors Association.

Theo was hired November 1st, 2013 to be the Chief / CEO of Grand Traverse Rural Fire Department.
